The growing workforce shortage in California refers to an insufficient number of qualified health care professionals across sectors, including primary care, specialty care physicians, doulas, and allied health professionals. This shortage poses a significant challenge to meeting the health care needs of Californians.
To address these pressing concerns, Insure the Uninsured Project (ITUP) hosted 11 Regional Equity Collaboratives across the state, from San Diego to Humboldt County. These collaboratives gathered key stakeholders such as:
- Community Champions
- Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)
- Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans (MCPs)
- Hospitals and Health Clinics
- County Officials
- Nonprofit Organizations
Focus on Workforce Challenges: Through these collaboratives, ITUP facilitated in-depth discussions on California’s workforce challenges and identified promising opportunities to create a health care workforce that reflects the communities being served. Solutions discussed during these sessions are pivotal in securing a sustainable, equitable future for California’s health care system.
