Supervisor Kuehl Affirms Commitment to LA County Safety Net at CCALAC Policy Cafe

This morning, Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was the featured guest at the Community Clinic Association of Los Angeles County’s Policy Cafe. To the clinics and stakeholders in attendance, she expressed a desire “break the rules” and break down silos between different county departments responsible for health and human services. She additionally said that she was committed to designing systems that work better for patients and clients, particularly those in poverty and those with complex physical health and behavioral health needs. Supervisor Kuehl also shared her optimism that the current LA County Supervisors could work collegially and collaboratively toward these goals.

Kuehl’s remarks also signaled a commitment to, and considerable knowledge of, the issues facing individuals reentering communities from incarceration and those struggling with homelessness. While acknowledging that addressing their challenges would be heavy lift, she urged clinics, county administrators, and stakeholders to be ambitious.  This kind of informed, progressive thinking was heartening for many of the clinics and advocates in the room. ITUP is glad to hear this strong new voice for integration and service quality on the LA County Board of Supervisors.
