Covered California describes the service centers as “state-of-the-art,” with approximately 500 state employees at each location. Call center representatives will have the ability to assit customers with eligibility determinations and the plan selection process in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese, and Armenian. These offices will be open in time for the Covered California open enrollment period, which starts October 1 of this year and ends March 31, 2014. Coverage will begin on January 1, 2014. Estimates suggest that as many as 5.3 million Californian could enroll in Covered California plans, with federal financial assistance available for many of those individuals.
The establishment of these service centers will be funded by the federal government, and fees from health insurance plans that will participate in Covered California will fund their ongoing operations.
