CMS Launches Center for Innovation

Last Tuesday, CMS officially launched the new Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).

Created under Section 3021 of the Affordable Care Act, the CMMI is charged with testing models of care to improve quality and control health care costs. The CMMI will examine new ways of delivering health care and paying health care providers that can save money for Medicare and Medicaid while improving quality.

The CMMI will be headed by Dr. Richard Gilfillan, former director of CMS’ performance-based payment policy and consultant for Geisinger Consulting Services.

For more about the Center and for information on the many grants and initiatives it will oversee, visit the CMMI homepage.
