Got Thoughts on ACOs? Tell CMS!

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) just issued a request for information from physicians and others as it develops a proposed rule for accountable care organizations (ACOs) under the Medicare Shared Savings Program, and considers testing other innovative payment and delivery system models through its Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
Beginning in 2012, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act allows hospitals, physicians and other qualifying health care providers to form ACOs and share in the cost savings they achieve for the Medicare program.
“In both of these efforts, we are seeking to advance ACO structures that are organized in ways that are patient-centered and foster participation of physicians and other clinicians who are in solo or small practices,” the CMS notice states.
