And the focus comes back to DC….

President Obama will address a joint session of Congress next Wed. Sept 9, surely only the beginning of an aggressive hand-on approach by the White House. There is even anticipation that a structured and focused single plan will be presented on paper by the Administration, and will be less robust than the two current proposals.
It appears the Finance Committee bipartisan group is crumbling, leaving much of the attention on moderate Republicans like Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins to guarantee passage of reform. Anything that emerges out of the Administration will be sure to appeal to these individuals (e.g. lower overall costs, a weaker public plan or ‘triggered’ public plan). There is a good analysis of what Snowe’s stance is, with the author putting her left of even some conservative Democrats.
